P7 Revision and Reinforcement Work

Welcome to our P7 page of resources, ideas and activities!

Note to Parents:

Please be aware, this is an unprecedented situation and we have been trying, and will continue, to do our best to provide you with a wide range of resources and suggestions for revision and consolidation. We are very much aware that everyone’s situation at home at this moment is very different and individual. One child may fly through multiple pieces of work in one day; another child may get one maths activity done and spend the afternoon baking a cake. Both children will have had a really productive day.

We just want to emphasise that our P7s’ health and well-being – physically and mentally – is paramount at this time and remind you not to panic if there are days when it feels that not a lot of “academic” work gets completed. We would encourage pupils to aim to do some reading each day alongside ‘daily maths practice’ and phonetic spellings as a minimum, then explore the below resources – in addition to their “hard copy” pack – when they can. There is much more work provided than we would expect you to get through in the next two weeks.

As the older pupils at Andrews, we hope our P7s will be able to work quite independently and select “projects” from our suggestions on this page to get stuck into. Researching online and presenting their findings in a creative way will incorporate numerous ICT and literacy skills along the way. Numeracy skills can also be “hidden” throughout the day by way of measuring, baking, and carrying out hands-on activities. Speaking of which, why not try the scone recipe below which Mr Sandford recently tried out at home?

All in all, try to enjoy your time at home, be as productive as is possible in your individual situation, and we’ll be in touch with some challenges, suggestions and messages from time to time.

Stay safe and well, Miss Alexander & Mr Sandford.

  • Children should try to continue their four ‘Memory Menu’ activities per week for their phonetic list – pupils have these print-outs up until Easter and the next lists will follow if/when required. They should begin from week 4 the “l” sound.
  • “A+ Spelling Test” is a useful free app for revising and testing spellings
  • “Scaffolded Texts” will be posted in PDF format on this page for use in consolidating children’s learning of the phonetic sounds

Reading:

  • A PDF of our class novel “Wonder” is posted below for pupils to continue reading and enjoying
  • We will provide a suggested reading list, based on free eBooks available from www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home and the NI Libraries app
  • We would encourage children to select their own reading books and enjoy reading leisurely at their own pace. However, on at least 2-3 occasions per week, it would be useful to refer to the Guided Reading Question Mat to aid the development of their higher order comprehension skills
  • For further reading comprehension, pupils can log onto C2K NewsDesk to avail of their various news articles which are accompanied by several discussion questions. These could be completed orally or in written form

Topics to be studied:

  • World War II – web page and accompanying learning materials found at secondworldwarni.org in addition to PowerPoints
  • Rainforests – PowerPoint studies focusing on plants and animals of the rainforest
  • MicroBugs – A selection of downloadable materials based on a study of viruses, bacteria and fungi

Use these materials along with the website http://www.secondworldwarni.org
If you can’t access the site, a lot of the materials in the booklets can be researched on other sites you might search.

Take a look at our learning grid for ideas on how you can use these rainforest resources.

Can’t get more topical than this! Honestly, we do this every year! View a PowerPoint and then do some of the activities listed on the P7 learning grid. You’ll need to download the Teacher Book if you want worksheets (only print what you need, there are 118 pages!!), but there are also loads of activities on the site:

Tie-riffic P7s

What a start to the year! The P7s spent the afternoon tying their teachers in knots, and tying a few ties, too!

Bearing in mind at post-primary school, you can’t get ties on bits of elastic, it has become a tradition in P7 at Andrews to have a ‘tie-in’ during the first month of the new year.

Start writing or type / to choose a blockSo after two weeks’ prac-tie-s (sorry), Friday morning was spent honing our newly-developed skills in Windsors and Half-Windsors (these are not wrestling moves). As you can see from the photographs, there was an awful lot of noise – and that was just from the ties.
