P7 Activities Week Starting 4th May

Good Morning P7, it’s the start of a new week!

Motivational Monday

Since it’s Monday, don’t forget to get in touch with another classmate and give them an encouraging message to see them through their week ahead!

Below, you can find all of the activities for the week. Try what you can, but remember to keep in touch with us to let us know what you’re up to! Don’t forget your Target of the Week at the bottom. Click on the PDF below to read a summary of this week’s work.

Literacy

This week’s grammar target is to use speech marks accurately. This will be a handy skill to practise since you might like to include some in your Beyond the Door narrative.

You can find more on speech marks (aka inverted commas or quotation marks!) on BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbkcvk7/articles/ztcp97h

The writing target for this week is step 3 of Beyond the Door – the planning phase. Feel free to start step 4 if your creative juices are flowing, but that will be next week’s target. How many of this week’s topic spellings can you include in your fantasy story?

Keep leisure reading – we’d love to hear what you’re choosing at the moment. Have a look at the “13 year-old changing the world one book at a time” article on NewsDesk for an inspiring read. On the topic of NewsDesk, why not have a look at articles written by your classmates? Like and comment on them – the easiest way is to search “Andrews Memorial” in the NewsDesk search bar.

Spellings are BACK! Have a look below at week 1 and complete your four activities throughout the week if you can. We’d love to hear your “silly stories”. Remember, you can type your list into the A+ Spelling app to help you practise. You’ll want to make sure you’re a super-speller by year 8!

Numeracy

This week’s numeracy topic is BODMAS. That’s a way of remembering the correct order in which to carry out different operations in a lengthy sum. Something you will certainly need to know moving into post-primary school. Check out the PowerPoints and activities below!

There are also some brilliant bits of info, videos, quizzes and activities involving BODMAS and order of operations on BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zfr3nrd/articles/z24ctv4

Have a look at this week’s problem-solving investigation, too. Lots of strategic thinking required for this one! For the challenge at the end, why not set it for a family member, or message it to a friend?

World Around Us

This week we are focusing on History and Geography

WWII – Hitler had turned his attention to the cities and civilians of Britain. Have a look at The Blitz this week!

Weather & Climate – Remember, these are two different things. (The image above gives you a clue!) This week, we take a look at different climates around the world!

PDMU

Here’s last week’s Fit for the Future PowerPoint, but this week we’d like you to look at the smoking lesson:

Art

Try out this art piece depicting The Blitz which we’re learning about in History. You could use a chalk, oil pastel or colouring pencil for the background, then black paper or paint for the silhouettes – whatever materials you have available!

of the Week!

P7 Activities Week Starting 27th April

Welcome back!

We hope you enjoyed your Easter Break – seems like ages ago now! Also, we hope you’ve had a good go at the activities that have been published on previous P7 pages and maybe even tried some of the ideas and challenges which have appeared on Twitter. Don’t forget that all of those things are still there if you want to go back to them!

We really want you to remember to to do your best to keep fit and active. Don’t forget to take every opportunity you can to keep moving and ‘on the go’. But it’s also important to keep your mind active as well. So keep communicating with those around you, on the ‘phone or via the internet.

Let’s face it though, you are P7s! In a few months time you’ll be in your new school and we want to help you be as prepared as you possibly can be. So, each week we will be publishing suggested work for you on theses pages. It will keep your brain active and your skills sharp for next term. We also hope that you’ll ‘feed-back’ some of your work for us to see.

So, here goes for this week……

The grid below summarises all the activities we’d like you to delve into this week, but remember you can explore any of these further by researching online or getting creative with iMovie, PowerPoint, BookCreator etc. Find your Target of the Week at the very bottom of the page, too!

Motivational Monday

To kick-start your week on a positive note each Monday, why not send an encouraging, motivational message to a friend to remind them you’re thinking of them and to brighten their week?

Literacy

Each week we will be revising a grammar topic, and carrying out part of a writing project.

This week’s grammar topic to revise is word classes (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and prepositions). Find the activity sheets below as well as the link to a useful game. Our writing target is to begin an exciting new piece of fantasy genre narrative writing entitled “Beyond the Door“! Check out the PowerPoint below and complete steps one and two.

Don’t forget to keep reading books / eBooks / comics of your choice, and for your comprehension work take a look at some articles on NewsDesk and carry out the discussion questions. This week, can you find an article named “How Did YouTube Start?” (search it in the search bar!) I think it may be right up your street and has some interesting discussion questions!

Numeracy

Each week we will be revising a different maths topic. We will also set you an investigation or fun challenge you may like to have a go at.
This week our maths topic is ALGEBRA…….That’s letters instead of numbers!
We have included a revision PowerPoint for you to look at first – just to jog your memory! All of the worksheets are either Group 1 or 2. You choose which is most suitable for you, but………

As well as the question sheet, we’ve also included the answers so that you can check your work at the end of each session….but only at the end so remember……..

Can you solve this week’s challenge?

World Around Us

This week we are focusing on History and Science.

World War II – The war is going badly for Britain and her allies. Learn about how disaster was narrowly avoided at Dunkirk.

Flight used to be something for birds, winged ‘creepy crawlies’ and a few mammals. Now, we take flight for granted, but how do birds, ‘winged creepy crawlies’, some mammals and humans get to fly? Investigate…..

PDMU

We’ll be looking at a variety of topics over the next while. We start with a look at some of the things that might challenge you in the future: alcohol; smoking and drugs.
The PowerPoint is for all three lessons, you just need to do the first one today!

OF THE WEEK

Read and enjoy the poem. There are loads of activities connected to it. You just need to choose ONE to do!
